The process whereby a molecule called fulvalene diruthenium can store and release heat on demand has been unveiled by researchers at MIT. The new discovery could lead to “advances in storage and portability”, the researchers said in an article published in the Angewandte Chemie journal.
Sunlight makes the molecule undergo a structural transformation, putting it into what the researchers call “higher-energy state” in which it can remain stable definitely.
