And to continue our "pedal power" series, here's another one that caught my eye on the Engadget website the other day. I'm afraid I didn't actually watch it happen live - blame the time difference - but New York's Times Square New Year's Eve Ball was powered this year by a fleet of six stationary bikes (called "power rovers"). The power generated by the pedalling was fed directly into giant "batteries" of that well-known copper-topped brand that illuminated the iconic 2010 numerals at the stroke of midnight.
